The United States, Greece, and China joined the battlefield this year one after another, against Germany, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and other allied countries. Artists in European countries came to the Netherlands to avoid the war. For a time, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, took the place of Paris, France and London, England and became the wartime “art capital”.
