關於《舊唐書》最初之名稱,向有“李氏書”(或“前朝李氏書”)與“唐書”兩種説法。不過,從前代纂修正史之斷代史,通常以朝代名與史或朝代名與書命名的傳統方式來看,“李氏書”不太可能是《舊唐書》起初的正式書名。結合後晉時期的避諱情況分析,“唐”字確實在諱字之列,但並非逢“唐”必改,尤其是朝代意義上的“唐”頻繁見諸文字記載,足以反映出將避諱視作以“李氏書”爲正式書名的理由難以成立。至於進奏時使用“李氏書”的名稱,其間當有口頭仍需避諱的因素,正式命名時遵從的則是“臨文不諱”的成法。若從正史命名傳統直到宋初仍在延續的角度探討,成書於五代時期的《舊唐書》,依然處於這一進程當中,作爲正式名稱的“唐書”符合正史命名傳統的一般原則。 As for the original name of “Old Tang Book,” it is said that there are two versions: “Li Book” (or “formerly Lee Books”) and “Tang Shu”.
