第六章拱轴线受压是拱桥的主要结构特点,拱桥结构充分利用材料的抗压性能,在古代,拱桥是一种大跨度桥梁结构。采用外力平衡拱轴线内力时,一般设置较强大的拱座以抵抗其水平分力和竖向分力,当为多跨连续拱桥时,某一孔的坍塌可能造成整座桥的坍塌;采用拱桥体系的内力平衡拱轴线内力时,一般设置拉杆或拉索或桥面结构平衡拱轴的水平分力,也称系杆拱桥,拱座主要承受竖向分力。
