However, Goethe, who has complicated thoughts and extensive interests, remains an enigma to be read yet. Although to a certain extent, people attach great importance to Goethe’s efforts in plastic arts, in general, the great accomplishments in literature have relatively masked the efforts and achievements Goethe devoted in this field. As far as the writer’s eyesight is concerned, it is even more neglected to consider Goethe as an art historian and to study Goethe’s painstaking research on the history of art and its achievements
