Detailed Description of the Patents: This invention is a new procedure and is a useful method of making samarium and high purity samarium. The increase of samarium in the metallurgical sector, in particular the increase in use of samarium-cobalt alloy as a superior magnetic material, has also seen a significant increase in demand for the manufacture of high-purity samarium. In the past, however, it has been very difficult to make such a suitable metal. It has been attempted to produce it from oxides using the dielectric method but has failed due to the reaction of samarium with the electrolyte. The method of reducing samarium with the reduction of samarium chloride has been almost unsuccessful. Furthermore, the method of reducing samarium oxide (Sm_2O_3) with lanthanum under vacuum to obtain samarium which contains oxygen and lanthanum.
