白尘、董健同志: 《中国现代戏剧史》打印稿收到已久,因为忙乱,直到最近才草草读了一遍,因此只能说点浮光掠影的印象。我首先向你们表示衷心的祝贺,编写组三年的辛苦有了可喜的成果。我觉得这是一部很好的现代戏剧史,第一、好在公允,月旦人物,品藻剧艺,评骘功过,权衡轻重,大体上做到了公平、合理和得体。第二、好在务实,力求还历史以本来面目。既将左翼戏剧运动放在核心地位,也不贬抑各个团体、流派、个人的贡献,既肯定左翼之得,也指出左翼之失。不像有些中国现代文学史,实际上成为左翼文学史。这种定于一尊、包打天下的派势,既不符合历史真实,又不符合艺术规律,更与实事求是的精神背道而驰。
Bai Chen and Dong Jian: The print version of “History of Modern Chinese Theater” has been received for a long time because of the hectic confusion until recently. Let me begin by expressing my heart-felt congratulations to all of you on your delightful achievements in compiling the three-year hard work. I think this is a very good history of modern drama. First, it is fair, fair and rational. Second, good pragmatic, and strive to also history to be true. It not only puts the left-wing theater movement at the core, nor does it detract from the contributions of various groups, schools and individuals. It affirms both the left-wing gains and the losses of the left-wing ones. Unlike some history of modern Chinese literature, it actually became a history of left-wing literature. This prerogative, which covers the whole world, neither conforms to historical realities nor complies with the laws of art, but runs counter to the spirit of seeking truth from facts.
