OBJECTIVE: To analyze the variability of blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and its relationship with cognitive function. Methods: Thirty elderly hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 60 normal subjects were selected randomly from March 2012 to March 2014 in our hospital. The study group (30 cases), elderly hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus Blood pressure variability in patients, control group (30 cases), normal elderly, and the two groups were retrospectively analyzed. Results: In the clinical study, the 24h SSD, d SSD, n SSD, 24h SCV, d SCV and n SCV were all high in the study group with hypertension and diabetes group, and were negatively correlated with MMSE after Pearson correlation analysis (-0.235, -0.246, -0.341, -0.158, -0.222, -0.238, respectively). Compared with the control group, the cognitive function of patients in the study group decreased. There was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: The blood pressure variability of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus can affect cognitive function in elderly patients. There is a negative correlation between BPV and cognitive function.
