《周易参同契》为中国文化要籍,被称为“万古丹经王”(《悟真篇》)、“万古丹经之祖”(《周易参同契发挥·阮序》)。《周易参同契》书名解释,前人似未认真涉及。本文试作多层次划分,以历史与逻辑之统一观点,阐释《周易参同契》书名之由来及其历史积累之意义。《周易参同契》书题的解释可分八个层次。第一层次,《周易参同契》以《周易》为总的指导思想。《系辞下》说:“《易》之为书也,广大悉备;有天道焉,有人道焉,有地道焉。兼三才而两之,故六;六者,非他也,三才之道也。”《周易参同契》有:“上察河图文,下序地形流,中稽于人情,参合考三才。”亦即《参同契》遵循《周易》,前者运用后者的基本哲学思想于天、地、人。《契》原文十余家注本均作“参合”,唯朱熹注本和其后储华谷注本正文则作“参同”,更强调了《契》与《易》的关系;但亦有意改正文,提高训释层次之嫌。
