龚嘴水电站系大渡河中下游第一期开发工程。于1966年1月选定坝址,次年经国家批准按“高坝设计、低坝施工”的原则设计。低坝抬高水位50米,装机七台共70万千瓦,保证出力17.9万千瓦,年发电量34.18亿度。工程除满足发电要求外,尚需解决木材流送过坝问题,在水库进行日调节时,还应考虑流量变化对下游航运的影响。 水工枢纽工程分地下和地面两部分。其中地面工程由混凝土重力坝(包括溢洪道、冲砂底孔、漂木道和厂房进水口等坝段)及坝后式地面厂房组成。最大坝高85米,坝顶全长447米。
