为了使美国卫星有能力识别苏联洲际导弹对美国“有限攻击”的特性,美空军将在1981财政年度开始设计改进型早期预警卫星。此卫星取名为遥感器演变发展(SED)卫星。这些SED卫星既包括那些现用的改进型早期预警卫星,也包括一些新卫星。所有这些卫星都将用航天飞机发射。它们将具有较高的生存能力,装备有最新式的遥感器,并将采用许多新部件取代现有预警卫星的旧部件,以达到既能提高生存能力,又能符合实战要求的目的。
To enable US satellites to recognize the “limited attack” nature of Soviet intercontinental missiles on the United States, the U.S. Air Force will begin designing improved early warning satellites in fiscal year 1981. This satellite is called the Remote Sensing Evolution (SED) satellite. These SED satellites include those currently in use as well as some advanced new satellites. All of these satellites will be launched by space shuttle. They will have higher viability, be equipped with state-of-the-art remote sensors and will replace many of the older components of existing early warning satellites with many new components in order to achieve both increased survivability and realistic requirements.
