国际水稻研究所(IRRI)于1960年成立,它是目前世界上唯一的国际水稻研究机构。水稻育种一直是该所工作重点之一。建所后的第二年,就开始从世界各国征集水稻种质资源。接着在1962年,利用我国水稻品种低脚乌尖(Dee-Geo-Woo-Gen)与印度尼西亚水稻品种皮泰(Peta)杂交,于1966年育成了世界有名的“奇迹稻”品种IR8。迄今为止,国际水稻研究所已培育出了一系列以国际稻(IR)命名的水稻新
International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) was established in 1960, it is the only international rice research institute in the world. Rice breeding has always been one of the priorities of the institute. The second year after the establishment of the institute began to collect rice germplasm resources from all countries in the world. Then in 1962, the world-famous “Miracle Rice” variety IR8 was bred in 1966 using the hybrid rice of Dee-Geo-Woo-Gen, a rice variety from China, and the Indonesian rice variety Peta. So far, the International Rice Research Institute has developed a series of new rice varieties named after International Rice (IR)
