December 2001 It was the summer of Antarctica, where a group of scientists and engineering technicians flew a huge balloon with large scientific instruments. For more than a decade, NASA and the National Science Foundation have ballooned here every year for scientific research. Their flying balloons carry a probe called the TIGER.
