Two kinds of complexes containing rare earth with strong second harmonic generation(SHG)——4-[ (N, N’ -(diethylamino) phenyl) a2o]-l-octodecyl-pyridimum-tetrakis (4-ben2oyl-1-phenyl-3-meyhyl-pyrazolone-5) dysprosium (compound A) and 4-[(4-N,N’-(diethylamino) phenyl) azo]-1-octodecyl-pyridinium-tri (4-benzoyl-l-phenyl-3-methyl-pyrazolone-5) -(l-phenyl-3-methyl-4-dodecanoyl-pyra2Dlone-5) dysprosium (compound B) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, FT-Raman, and UV spectra. The surface pressure (π)-area (A) isotherms for both compounds onto subphase (water) at room temperature showed that the two compounds can form stable Langmuir-Blodgett films. The SHG measurement indicated that this system is the best nonlinear optical material reported in literature.
