Long forest mature cycle length is a headache for many afforestation problems. Agroforestry can solve this problem. Agroforestry includes the planting of widely spaced trees in the pastures to achieve the best combination of pasture production and wood quality. This will provide certain livestock products each year during the growing of trees. This combination of production is better economically than the separate management of trees and pastures. Preliminary findings from New Zealand, Australia and Oregon, USA, prove that it is feasible. There are two different modes of agroforestry, one is planting trees in the pastures and the other is growing fodder crops under growing trees. It has been reported that saplings have been planted in an established pasture and that their compound cultivation reaches the maximum extent that the land resources can afford. Although experience has shown that pasture can survive under trees, the above approach is too extreme and hardly acceptable. Do not confuse it with what is discussed in the article.
