贞观六年,唐太宗审查死囚,看到这些要被处死的人,心生怜悯,下旨放其回家,让他们与家人团聚,来年秋天返回长安就死。第二年秋,头年所释放的390名死囚,在无人监督无人带领的情况下,都按期归来,无一人逃亡。秋日凄凉的傍晚,天色渐渐暗下来,河水泛着清冷的光无声地流淌,岸边杨树的叶子落了大半,剩下的也时日不多了,苟延残喘。树叶稀疏的一大好处是,可以漏下更多的天光,使渡口不那么昏暗。
