During the period between the late 19th century and the early 20th century, westernization was a method widely accepted as the main method of translating foreign literature and the way of innovating the vernacular Chinese. The choice of this translation strategy is affected by various factors. The polysystem theory is thus applied to explain the relationships among these factors. And the over-westernization phenomenon will be analyzed, attempting to provide a suggestion in choosing translation methods between domestication and foreignization.
