China’s current “Code for Design of Steel Structures” (TJ17-74) stipulates that the minimum allowable margins of bolts and rivets are 1.5d and 1.2d, and the end-to-end distance is 2d. The friction type connection for high-strength bolts also complies with this provision. This minimum allowable margin and end-to-end distance are used in reference to foreign norms. China has not conducted any verification and systematic experimental research on this provision. At present, some countries have included the pressure-type connection of high-strength bolts in the design and construction specifications. For this type of connection, when determining the minimum end-to-end distance, the thickness of the connection plate (ie, the pressure ratio) must be taken into account. China’s design rules
