Siemens and RWE launched a virtual power plant in the Leipzig energy trading market. The Rhine-Ruhr region is one of the most densely populated areas in Germany with wind turbines, rooftop solar panels and various other renewable energy equipment. In a Dortmund office building, power plant operators at utility giant RWEAG can co-ordinate the power output of these devices through a computer screen. Using a wireless link to power equipment and an energy management system designed by the German engineering giant Siemens, RwE has been able to bring the output of dozens of small green energy devices together for stable power and government subsidies. RWE started operations in February 2012 with the first commercial scale
