方志是综合记载地方自然和人文情况的著作。内容十分广泛,包括一地的建置、沿革、疆域、物产、天文、地理、气候、山川、名胜、天灾、人祸、文化、艺术、医药、政绩、教育、风俗、民族、人物、宗教、科学、技术、交通、经济等。诸多方志中记载的某地的自然地理与人文地理的信息,具有重要的近代乃至现代地理学价值。因此,研究方志的渊源与发展,地理学价值,对于弘扬我国传统文化和推动地理学的发展具有意义。 一、方志的渊源和发展概述 方志之名称始于《周礼·地官》:“诵训,掌道方志,以诏观事。”而后编修志书,成为中国传统文化的组成部分。《中国大百科全书·地理学》区分方志的发展为三个阶段:地记阶段、图经阶段和方志阶段。根据体例,东汉袁康的《越绝书》和晋代常璩的《华阳国志》,可谓开方志之先河。后者又是现存最早以“志”命名的志书,有巴、汉中、蜀、南中等志,凡十二篇。最早以“志”为名的,当属东汉班固的《汉书·地理志》。全书三个部分对汉代郡县封国的建置,以及各地的山川、户口、物产、风俗和文化等作了综述,保存了汉代及其以前的许多珍贵的地理资料,蓄含了丰富的地理信息。该志开创了疆域地理志和沿革
