From 12 to 19 March 1996, an international symposium titled “National Library of the 21st Century: Hardware, Software and Strategies” was hosted by the Library of Congress in Japan, which was held in Tokyo and Kyoto respectively. A total of more than 500 people attended the seminar and discussed issues related to electronic libraries.
