The impact of the “9.11” incident on the civil aviation maintenance industry will depend primarily on how North American and European airlines will reduce their capacity. If airlines only take temporary measures to reduce capacity, such as temporarily suspending operations or reducing daily utilisation, the impact will be less significant than the long-term parking of large numbers of aircraft in the desert. By discounting the reduction in flights last October, the loss to the MRO industry may be 2 billion U.S. dollars on an annual basis.
