应中国机械工程学会机械设计学会的邀请,塞瑞格(seireg)~*教授于1984年2月21日至3月1日来华讲学和座谈.讲课内容包括五个专题:机械优化设计、计算机在机械工程中的应用、设计方法学、机械工程教育及齿轮。这里整理的内容仅是齿轮部分.塞瑞格教授在讲学期间,用大量的实例和数百个幻片,向我们介绍了他个人和在他指导下的几十年的工作成果,给我们带来了许多信息和启示.讲学内容贯穿着讲究效率和经济观点.所研究的问题与实际紧密结合,手段先进(尽量采用电子计算机),研究的方法是对复杂的问题抓住实质加以简化,在研究中,始终强调以解决实质问题为宗旨,注重经验,注重实际,力求创新,主张用最简单的教学模型解决问题,尽量避免烦琐哲学和程式性规范,典型地代表了美国工程设计的特征.塞瑞格教授数十年来兼顾教学、设计、研究、工业顾问等多方面的工作。这种并行的工作经历和经验积累,使他得以长期保持前沿水平。他的成就是多学科成果相互渗透及各类经验相辅相成的结果.这启发我们,应加快我国现有工程技术人员和教师的知识更新、扩大知识面的步伐,要十分重视与实践的紧密结合,对青年学生培养要注重奠定更宽实的基础.
