In the late 1980s, the number of lathes in the former Soviet Union was close to 500,000, of which about two-thirds were concentrated in Russia. The average annual output is nearly 25,000 units, while Russia accounts for about half. Some of the insufficient demand is supplemented by Kazakh and Ukrainian (more than 1,000 per year).
