Because of its shape memory effect (SME), shape memory alloy (SMA) can be used to improve the stress and strain distribution in damaged structures in bearing structures and reduce stress concentration in hazardous areas. This article describes the new technology and demonstrates the feasibility of this technique with the theoretical analysis and experimentation of perforated plates made of isotropic materials
