The 11th Panchen Lama， a top spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism， delivers a sermon during his first Kalachakra ritual in Xigaze， southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region， on July 24.
Kalachakra， or the Wheel of Time， includes a series of teachings and initiations given by gurus to help empower believers. The event was held at the request of monks from the Tashilhungpo Monastery， the monastery of Panchen Lamas， in Xigaze. Some 426，000 believers attended the four-day event.
The last such event in the region was held by the 10th Panchen Lama in 1954.
