世界银行最新发表的2000年度发展报告显示,世界各国之间的贫富差距不断扩大。世界上最富有的20个国家人均收入,比最贫穷的20个国家高出37倍。两者之间的差距,比40年前增加了1倍。该报告共调查了132个国家和地区。最贫穷的国家是埃塞俄比亚,人均年收入仅有100美元。最富有的国家是瑞士,人均年收入则高达3.84万美元。该报告显示,目前全世界有28亿人每天的生活费不足2美元,几乎占世界人口的一半。而其中又有12亿人的每天生活费还不足1美元。
The latest 2000 World Development Report released by the World Bank shows that the gap between the rich and the poor in the world is constantly widening. The per capita income of the world’s richest 20 countries is 37 times more than the poorest 20 countries. The gap between the two has doubled from 40 years ago. The report surveyed 132 countries and territories. The poorest country is Ethiopia, with annual per capita income of only 100 U.S. dollars. The richest country is Switzerland, with annual per capita income as high as $ 38,400. According to the report, 2.8 billion people worldwide live on less than $ 2 a day, accounting for almost half of the world’s population. And an additional 1.2 billion people live on less than a dollar a day.
