1949年12月,人民解放军以摧枯拉朽之势横扫国民党军,解放了华南大陆。12月18日,中共中央军委和毛泽东主席不失时机地向第四野战军下达解放海南岛的命令。由四野15兵团司令员邓华、政委赖传珠、第一副司令员兼参谋长洪学智等统一指挥40军、43军及炮兵、工兵等10万余人组成的作战兵团,开进雷州半岛集结,进行渡海作战解放海南岛的准备。当时人民解放军既无渡海登陆作战经验,又无海军、空军的掩护和支援,渡海船只也不足。因此,如何乘木帆船渡过海峡,突破敌海军、空军的海上封锁,就成了此次战役成败的关键。1950年2月2日,在广州召开的海南岛战役作战会议,确定了渡海作战采取“分批偷渡与积极准备大规模强渡,两者并重进行”的战役指导方针,并着手实施。在琼崖纵队和海南人民群众的接应配合下,渡海作战兵团先锋部队分两批四次潜渡,胜利登陆海南岛,增强了我军岛上的力量。4月16日,解放海南的大规模作战开始……正值海南解放60周年之际,本刊特约请海南中共党史研究专家撰文回顾这段历史。以为纪念。
