Objective To study the clinical effect of PICC on the nursing of very low birth weight children. Methods 80 cases of very low birth weight infants born in our hospital from January 2013 to January 2015 were randomly divided into control group and experimental group with 40 in each group. The control group was treated with peripheral intravenous infusion, and the experimental group took PICC catheter care, after a period of time to compare the two groups of children’s indicators. Results The incidence of hypoglycemia, hypothermia and phlebitis in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P <0.05). The average catheterization time in the experimental group was significantly larger than that in the control group (P <0.05), and the average number of punctures was significantly less than Control group (P <0.05). Conclusion In clinical care of very low birth weight children, PICC can provide a safe and secure venous access, can greatly reduce the workload of nursing, it is worth promoting in clinical nursing.
