相较于约瑟夫·奈提出的“软实力”概念,老子范式中的“柔实力”概念,对柔性力量与刚性力量之间关系、柔性力量发挥作用的途径、以及如何守柔等方面,都提出了颇有见地的观点,充满了东方智慧,有些内涵甚至远超越了约瑟夫·奈的“软实力”概念,一些方面克服了软实力理论的局限性。在国际关系理论研究的“中国视野”中,发掘传统文化典籍中“柔实力”等内容并使之现代化,对构建有中国特色的思想体系、学术体系和话语体系,有着十分重要的理论和实践意义。
