以草鱼为母本，赤眼鳟为父本的正交杂种子代其受精率为85％，孵化率为63．2％；而以赤眼鳟为母本，草鱼为父本的反交杂种子代其受精率为83％，孵化率为40％。正、反杂文鱼种显示一定差异性。南县、玩江、湖南农大三地池塘中的苗种在培育期间还未发现病症，初步显示出比草鱼强的抗病能力。
