Aquaporins (AQPs) are a group of cell membrane transporters involved in water permeability. At present, 12 AQPs have been found in mammals. There are 6 AQPs distributed in lung tissues (AQP1, AQP3, AQP4, AQP5, AQP8 and AQP9), which are expressed in different parts of lung tissue respectively. Among them, AQP1, AQP3, AQP4 And AQP5 plays an important role in the transport of water between alveolar capillaries and may be involved in the absorption of alveolar fluid during birth, the airway humidification, the regulation of lung water volume and the formation of pulmonary edema. The following is a review on the distribution, function and aqua pathological features of aquaporin in lung tissue.
