The miniaturization of electronic components, the development of practical integral rocket-ramjet engines, and the growing demand for low-cost, high-speed, and long-range fly-to-fly missions all contributed to the restoration of Navy’s Maritime Systems Command Research on face-to-face and surface-to-air missiles with ramjet engines. Scientists and engineers at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and technical advisers to the Navy for ship-to-ship missiles are cleaning up some of the older ramjet data and proceeding with the development of missiles fitted with new ramjet engines.
