From “Medical Reference Daily Nutrition Channel” February 2014 Issue 2 [Clin Nutr, February 2013] Title: Relationship Between Nutritional Status, Cachexia and Survival in Patients with Advanced Colorectal Cancer - Different Nutrition Condition Assessment Criteria Get Different Results (by Thoresen L et al.) It is well-known that patients with malignancies are at greater risk for muscle weakness, malnutrition and cachexia. The lack of clear criteria for defining malnutrition-related malnutrition and cachexia has long been used to evaluate the use of different nutritional assessment tools. To this end, Thoresen L and colleagues at the Oncology Clinic at St Olavs University Hospital in Trondheim, Norway, conducted a study to investigate the relationship between different evaluation criteria and overall survival in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer.
