Effective authorization is a manager’s basic responsibility. Ordinarily, empowerment is the process of putting some of the work done by others. Authorization does not mean giving up your responsibilities. Empowerment means allowing and encouraging others to get the job done and achieve the desired result. At the same time, you are responsible for the performance of your work from start to finish. Authorized behavior consists of three elements: the assignment of work; the grant of power; responsibility to create.
