徐世昌(1855-1939),字卜五,号菊人,又号东海、水竹村人、石门山人等,直隶天津(今天津市)人。徐世昌早年为袁世凯幕僚,北洋政府时期曾就任中华民国大总统。其日记《韬养斋日记》凡100册,计150余万字,记述了徐世昌自光绪十一年(1885年)至民国二十八年(1939年)五月去世前一月,共五十四年间所见所闻所感。《韬养斋日记》一直保存在徐氏后人手中,“文革”时因抄家遗失1册。目前,其余99册日记仍保存在徐世昌第五代嫡长孙徐定茂先生处。今年,在北京市政协文史和学习委员会的协助下,这部尘封100多年的日记有望首次成书出版,为中国近现
