避免甲型流感等病毒导致的传染病灾难的发生已成为关系到国民生存与健康、国家安全、社会稳定和经济发展的重大现实问题。从免疫学研究角度对病毒诱发宿主免疫反应的深入探讨,是研发新型的抗病毒药物和疫苗、有效地预防和控制重要病毒的传播与感染的重要基础。在国家自然科学基金等基础研究项目的持续支持下,我国免疫学研究人员正在从基础研究的角度揭示病毒和宿主免疫系统的相互作用,发现病毒免疫逃逸的可能方式;在促进我国免疫学基础研究跨越式发展的同时,对维护国民健康和控制传染性疾病做出应有贡献。
