The port health authorities prevent the transmission of quarantinable diseases into and out of the territory, and control the spread of other communicable diseases mainly through quarantine inspection, surveillance of communicable diseases,sanitary supervision and sanitary treatment. Taking the year 2000 as an example, inspection has been carried out on 385 810 ships, 146 399 planes.
