“Apartment”是北美地区用词，指代可供出租的公寓式套间，但在英国多指可供出租公寓的一个房间。“Flat”多用在英式英语当中，指代一幢公寓大楼内某一层上可供租住的“一套房间”，即公寓的单元住房。“Apartment”与“Flat”都表达了一种意思：公寓楼里面的住户一般都是租客，而公寓楼的所有者才真正拥有这些公寓。
　　“Condominium（亦可简称为‘Condo’）”意为共管公寓，通常是外观上与“Apartment”相似的公寓，只不过整栋楼没有共同的所有者，每个“Condo”都有着各自的所有者，因此又被称为“分契式公寓”。所以两者之间最根本的差异是“Condo”是由个人所有的，而“Apartment”是向公寓大楼租住的。

　　父亲的努力工作得到了回报，而且得到了晋升。他兴高采烈地决定雇佣一个女仆来减轻妻子家务的负担。他还觉得家里的三房公寓不够大了，要是自己的家人能够享受共管公寓大楼的设施和舒适就好了。经历过多次努力得到的回报之后，父亲决定继续努力学习和工作以得到再次晋升。家人还是不怎么能见得到他。事实上，有时候父亲不得不在周日去招待客户。
　　再一次，每当家人埋怨父亲没有花足够的时间和他们待在一起时，他会解释说自己所做的一切都是为了家人。但是他也时常渴望花更多的时间和家人待在一起。
　　不出所料，父亲的努力工作再次得到了回报，而且他买了一套漂亮的公寓，在公寓里可以俯瞰新加坡的海岸。到新家后的第一个周日晚上，父亲向家人宣布他决定再也不参加任何课程或追求任何晋升了。
　　从那以后他要多花时间来陪伴家人。
　　第二天，父亲再也没有醒来。
