A team of Japanese experts has developed the most accurate atomic clocks ever made. The optical lattice clock is extremely sensitive and capable of detecting changes in the Earth’s gravitation, allowing scientists to measure the time to a staggering 17-digit accuracy. It can also be used to dramatically improve the GPS tracking system to detect height differences of up to 10 cm. The new atomic clock was developed by Professor Min Min Xiang and his team from the University of Tokyo with the help of Professor Victor Flambaugh, University of New South Wales, Australia. Flambbaum said that the light lattice clock is like an egg grid placed on the turf. ”The ion clock usually has only one atom, you have to wait a long time before you can achieve the desired accuracy. The newly invented atomic clock can be manipulated
