In the past, Japanese women preferred skirts, even in the winter snow floating in the thousands of miles, still in the street is “the skirt of the ocean.” Many businesses and government agencies even stipulate that women employees wear skirts (that is, they are not allowed to wear pants) to work, just as they require male employees to wear a suit and tie. Among the middle-aged and over-50-year-old Japanese women, the percentage of dresses is even more striking: about three times that of women of the same age in Europe and the United States or five times that of women of the same age in China. However, there are indications in recent years that Japanese women have begun to cool their dresses and are increasingly favored by Japanese women.
