今天的少年兒童,也就是第二、第三个五年計劃的建设者和保衛者。因此關心他們的教育,關心他們的身心成長,把他們教育成为社会主义的新人,这是我們崇高而艰巨的任务,也是我們的職責。过去我們对兒童讀物沒有很好地重視,祖國偉大社会主义建設中的一些驚天動地的事蹟和成就,新社会中很多可歌可爱的新鮮事物,沒有反映在我們的兒童文学作品中;我國兒童的新面貌,他們的思想感情,新道德品質的成長,也沒有很好地塑造成为典型,用以教育少年兒童;關於進行社会主义的劳動教育,加强科学技術教育方面的讀物,幾乎还是空白的。
