Nitrogen (N) is a component of important organic substances such as proteins and nucleic acids. Phosphorus (P) is a component of important organic substances such as nucleic acids. They play an important role in cellular metabolism. Kelp or other organisms in the metabolic process must have a certain amount of nitrogen and phosphorus supply, in order to normal growth and development. Experiments by Drew (1910) point out that the addition of inorganic salts of nitrogen and phosphorus to natural seawater can promote the growth of sugar kelp gametophytes. Experiments by Harries (1932) indicate that phosphorus promotes cell division of kelp gametophytes. When the phosphorus content exceeds nitrogen, the gametophyte will grow into a multicellular dendritic body, the result can not develop into sporophytes, when the nitrogen content is too much, the gametophyte growth retardation, delayed development.
