In Madame Dalloway’s novel, Woolf personalizes the dark part of the character’s eponymous identity to create a personal image of Septymus. This creative approach helps the author to reveal the novel’s eternal theme of life and death. This article intends to discuss Woolf’s transcendence of life-and-death dualism of “being active, dead or passive” in “Lady Dalloway” from the perspective of “personal experience”. By revealing the nature and death of the alienation of life as communication, in order to alienate the contempt of alienation, Woolf’s philosophy of life and death is elaborated in the novel.
