In Beijing, many people once dreamed that they could buy a courtyard house or an old house in an old hutong, and then transform it into a home or a studio according to their own wishes. The owner of the house had been searching for a second-hand house in his mind with such an original intention. However, he unexpectedly bought the new house, which was located in an alley near Houhai. Because the house was developed and designed in accordance with traditional architectural styles, the appearance and internal structure are close to what the owner wants. When design without “design” entered the alley, I thought that what I was about to face might be a space filled with valuable mahogany furniture. I could push the door and immediately understand that my estimation was wrong. In front of this home, it’s not like what style it is. It can be concise but not monotonous. There are not many things but it is just right: there is no complicated list of materials, and there is no so-called decorative change that appeals to the public... In fact, the original intention of the owner’s design is to simply avoid everything. Dispensing design.
