To meet the objectives of the first phase of the Department of Defense’s Integrated High-Performance Turbine Engine Technology Program (IHPTET), Pratt & Whitney completed the first full-scale power plant test in September 1994. Tests conducted in September 1994 showed that the company’s XTE-65/2 Joint Technology Verification Machine (JTDE) has met and exceeded the IH-PTET target – a 30% increase in weight ratio compared to modern advanced technology engines.
