甘肃省的泥盆系包括海相及陆相两大类型。海相泥盆系分布于甘肃北部的北山及南部的西秦岭两个地区;陆相泥盆系分布于甘肃中部的河西走廊及祁连山区。从古生物群及沉积岩相特征可以看出,北山北部(马宗山以北)的海相泥盆系与新疆准噶尔、内蒙古及大、小兴安岭等地类同,说明当时是处于同一个海域,而北山南部(红柳园一带)及西秦岭 Devonian in Gansu Province includes two major types of marine and continental facies.
