以空间机械臂而闻名的加拿大已研制出新型号机械臂。被称为“下一代加拿大臂”(NGC)的系统既能用于修理通信卫星,又能帮助人类对月球、小行星、火星和宇宙其他角落开展载人探测。随着美国航天飞机的退役,新一代载人空间探测飞行器将很快投入使用,但这些飞行器要比航天飞机小很多,所以需要对现有机械臂技术进行适应性改进。用在美航天飞机上的首个“加拿大臂”长15米、1981年首次上天飞行,2011年美航天飞机退役前一直使用。
Canada, famous for its space robots, has developed a new version of its robotic arm. The system, known as the “Next Generation Canadian Arm” (NGC), can be used both to repair communications satellites and to help mankind probe manned lunar, asteroid, Mars and other parts of the universe. With the retirement of the U.S. space shuttle, a new generation of manned space exploration vehicles will be available soon, but these are much smaller than the space shuttle and require adaptation to existing arm technology. The first “Canadian Arm” used on the US space shuttle was 15 meters long and was first in flight to 1981 in the United States and until 2011 when the U.S. space shuttle was retired.
