As energy prices have risen, large pumping headlines and potential water restrictions have forced Arizona farmers to consider more efficient irrigation methods. In the past five years, farmers have installed drip irrigation systems on more than 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) of cotton land to reduce water use and increase yields. This study measured the amount of water and nitrogen needed for drip irrigation of cotton with an in-ground drip irrigation system. Farmers usually irrigate two lines of cotton with a surface pipe. The disadvantage of this method is that it is installed and recalled every year, which hinder the cultivation. Moreover, if the drip irrigation pipe is not moved to the seed row, the germination rate is very low due to the difficulty of controlling the surface humidity of the soil. mobile
