This article describes an optical method that suppresses the imaging system’s response to slowly changing background disturbances. This method involves the use of a photochromic plate to shield the photodetector and presents a model of such a system. The given photochromic plate is equivalent to an optical automatic gain control (AGC) device. The time response of such a system is discussed. The simulation results show that this method can be applied.
