所谓俗乐舞,是民间风俗推崇的民间乐舞,相对西周时期雅乐舞的繁荣,秦汉时期则是民间俗乐舞发展的高峰期。秦汉俗乐舞内容庞杂,表演形态综合,舞蹈长期与杂技和武术在角抵百戏中同场表演,相互影响。此外,俗乐舞充分利用舞具、舞服抒发情感,加强美感,已成为我国传统舞蹈的特色之一,使秦汉舞蹈不但在艺术技巧上有很大提高,在抒发人物内心情感、表现诗般的意境等方面,也有了长足的进步。
